I’m a big believer in adopting a holistic approach toward wellness. I believer looking at the body overall instead of merely looking at symptoms can prove highly useful for both the doctor and the patient. Supplements combined with a healthy diet and exercise can have a very positive overall effect on the body.
1. Wheat Grass
Chlorophyll is a basic building block for the process of photosynthesis. Plants use it to produce energy and we eat the plants to gain energy. It’s rare that we go outside and eat grass grown on our lawns or even planted in our gardens. There are many people who don’t even eat vegetables during the day. Wheat grass capsules allow for the nutritional benefits of eating green leafy veggies without thinking about it. Claims range from a boost in overall energy levels, to helping prevent cancer.
2. Vitamin D
Many people who live in colder climates get minimal exposure to sunlight. When the sun’s ultraviolet rays hit the skin, the body produces Vitamin D. A lack of sun exposure creates deficiency, which can affect the immune system, the body’s insulin response system, blood pressure and more.
3. Flax Seed Oil
Probably one of the more important supplements to choose from on the list. It is plant-based and high Omega-3 fatty acids, used in many of the body’s processes. Consumption of flax seed oil can reduce high blood pressure, aid in weight loss, improve eyesight, increase energy and decrease the body’s recovery time from healing.
A natural antioxidant, which protects the body from free radicals. It can also function as an antibiotic, helping fight microbial and fungal infections. In addition it helps lower cholesterol and help with other cardiovascular problems.
Comprised of B1, B2, B3, B4, B6, B12 and more, vitamin B also helps with many of the body’s processes. B1 is used in converting carbohydrates to glucose which the body uses for energy. In the nervous system, B1, B6 and B12 aid in brain function. B5 plays a role in hormone production. Not to mention it helps improve the appearance of skin, hair and nails.
6. St. John’s Wort
Rather than being dependent on anti-depressants, why not go about the natural way? St. John’s Wort has been proven to help people experiencing mild bouts of depression at a much lower cost than prescription drugs and with fewer side effects. In addition, it is high in bioflavonoids which can treat swollen vains and aid in recovery from traumatic injury.
When feeling sickly, any kind of stimulant for the body’s immune system can prove useful. Echinacea is a supplement that does just that. It activates white blood cells, making it more difficult for foreign bodies to infect cells. Many claim it has helped them get over the common cold more quickly than without it.
8. Vitamin C
Protection against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, eye disease and the skin wrinkling. These are all some of the potential benefits people have experienced from Vitamin C consumption. In addition, some claim it helps them become more resistant to the common cold.

In mice, it has been shown to lower blood sugar, and fight cancer but the effects on humans remains to be proven. The ancient Chinese have used Ginseng to improve their overall well-being. It is a popular anti-aging supplement that is known to aid in both mental and physical capacity. The two primary types are American, Asiatic and Siberian. The American variant has a cooling effect on the body whereas the Asiatic has a warming.
